The Greenwing Parrot, this species of parrot are usually about 36 inches plus in length females tend to be larger with a wider forehead, their plumage is primarily red in colour and they have red and black feather stripes on thier face and a green band of feathers following the red on its wings. Generally the Greenwing Parrot are not known as talkative parrots but there have been examples of Macaws who are talkative. They are known though for being vocal with screams and for making noises.This specices is also known as the gentle giant as it is one of the largest within the parrot world. Although this bird is larger than most of the other macaw species, when properly raised this species temperament is easy going, and they can be taught to do tricks. Dont forget that parrots are very friendly and very intelligent birds that love human contact. They dont mind being on there own, but not for a long time as they do like a lot of attention.The lifespan of a Greenwing Parrot can be up to eighty years. Parrots are mostly active during the day and if your Greenwing is being kept indoors they will need regular exercise, letting them out of their cages for excercise is a good idea but please make sure that all your windows and doors are closed. Once you have trained your Greenwing parrot they can use a perched stand and they will be easy to return to their cages. The cage for your parrot should be big enough so the parrot can easily stretch out and open its wings without them touching the sides. Always make sure that your parrots cage is not placed in direct sunlight or any draughts. Greenwings like a diet of seeds and nuts and also fruit and vegetables can be given as treats, never give a parrot chocolate, avocado, lettuce or sweets, these can be very very harmful to parrots.
